He answers the phone to hear, "Dwane, congratulations, you've been named coach of the year!" His eyes widen and he smiles. After a few minutes he hangs up and he is elated.

A few minutes later, the phone rings again, and the fear returns.

Yeah. This isn't like the media MVP voting, where someone is going to vote outside of the norm for some sort of political reasons. This is 30 coaches being asked who did the best job this year, and they all agreed. They don't give a shit about unanimous being some magical thing.

True, but the coaches have a different agenda. Brad Stevens has been highly regarded for a few years now. Casey has been criticized heavily. He reinvented himself and the offense, and his fellow coaches want to recognize that change. That’s my take, anyway.

He really doesn't deserve to be fired imo. In past years, you could call for him to be fired because we had no offensive system, but that's clearly changed this season. However, with the way the raptors season ended this year, it's less clear what the problem is with the raptors, and the easiest target is always the coach. It's a tough situation.

1) Did a team with a coach who hasn't won before make a huge jump in performance? Give it to them.

2) If not, did a team do anything incredibly impressive like end up with a noticeably inflated win amount? Give it to them.

Because the talent on the Celtics is underrated asf on this sub and twitter. Kyrie played 60 games, Horford, Brown and Smart are all NBA defenders, Tatum is an amazing rookie. Stevens should get votes this is dumb asf. I would argue he should win it. but people have to put respek on the Celtics players.

Arnovitz mentioned on a Lowe podcast that a lot of older coaches/scouts were annoyed by how Brad was talked about in the media, and this sort of backs that up.
